Curling On Cape Cod

Image

We think all kids should try curling!

It is a terrific sport that encourages good sportsmanship, focus, finesse and fitness.  It’s good clean fun whether you are 5 or a 105.  We know that there are a lot of programs and sports for kids to get involved with, but we really believe that Curling is where it is at!

At Cape Cod we run a youth curling program that welcomes kids from 5 to 20.  We break our youth up into several groups. There is a “Little Rocker” program for our kids ages 5 through 12, a Junior group for kids 12 and up, and a competitive group for our curlers who are training to play at the elite level.

All of our Youth programming is scheduled for Sunday afternoons. Additionally our juniors and elite junior curlers may take advantage of additional programming on Fridays.

For more information please email [email protected] and one of our youth coaches will get back to you.

FAQs

What is your covid policy? Our club policy can be found here https://drive.google.com/file/d/12vp-83E6nNOooRQh7ccHSwWjzXWAti7R/view.  Currently we are requiring that all kids and adults entering the facility be vaccinated unless they are medically unable.

Who Can curl – Anybody! Our youth program encourages kids 5 through 20!

How much does it Cost? Come try it for free. If your child enjoys curling, the cost to become a member and play October through March is $100. If you have multiple children in the program the cost is $200 for a family. So, for example, if you had three children participating in the program the cost would be $200.

What equipment do I need? Warm clothes, stretchy pants, and a pair of clean shoes.  Curling ice is kept very clean, so we ask that you dedicate one pair of sneakers as your “curling shoes” and commit to not wearing them outside. The club provides all other necessary equipment. Junior curlers, age 12 and up may want to eventually invest in a pair of special curling shoes and a broom, but there is no need when you are starting out.  We also have a decent collection of used shoes for our junior curlers whose feet are still growing fast!

Is curling expensive? NO!! Seriously curling is a very inexpensive sport. Our curling club is a non profit, entirely volunteer run organization.  Compared to other sports we are an absolute bargain.

Who are your coaches? Volunteer members of the curling club.  Currently the two main youth organizers are Matina Heisler and Levi Gorrell. They are experienced curlers who hope to share their love of the sport with the next generation of curlers. Their main priority is that their youth curlers have fun, and stay safe.  Our regular youth coaches have taken Safesport.

How do I sign up?  Email [email protected] and one of our youth organziers will get back to you.

My child hasn’t curled before  - will they have a hard time integrating in with other kids who may have been curling for years?  No problem!  We can get your kid curling and having fun right away.  Our junior members didn’t all start when they were five.  We regularly integrate kids who take up the sport “late”

What do I do while my kid is curling? You are welcome to help out on the ice, but we also have a cozy “warm room” where you can sit and watch your kid curl. We ask that parents of our “Little Rockers” stay in the facility while their kids are curling and that the parents of our new junior curlers stay for at least the first few sessions.

Is curling accessible? Yes! Our facility is wheelchair accessible.

Is curling separated by gender? Not usually. All our programming is co-ed. Almost all youth tournaments are “open” meaning boys and girls can compete at the same events and on the same teams.   This is because, except at the very elite level,  men and women are on equal footing on the curling ice.

I want to try it too! That’s great! If you want to help out, and learn to curl in the process, we would love to teach you the basics of curling.
