The Cape Cod Curling Club's
Ladies' Summerspiel
July 16 -19, 2023
Thank you to all who joined us for the 34th Ladies’
Summerspiel
The Ladies’ Summerspiel started on the afternoon of July 16th immediately after the Dewees’ Mixed spiel ended. Three draws were
completed that afternoon and evening. Over the next three days, 24 teams from across the United States brought their best games to the ice. For USWCA members, this was the first circuit event of the 2023/2024 season.
In between games, teams enjoyed socializing at the Monday night cocktail party, Tuesday night’s dinner, and other meals. Broomstacking included the opportunity to get to know other teams as well as to enter the basket raffles that raised money for the Youth Scholarship Fund.
Tuesday evening showcased some tough competition, with the 1st event semi-finals making for an exciting last draw. In the end, The Clamdiggers from Detroit, skipped by former Olympian Ann Swisshelm, were set to take on Anne Robinson’s team from The Country Club in Boston on Wednesday.
Wednesday, July 19th, started with a point spiel to determine the winners and runners-up of the 4th event. Falmouth Fab Four from Cape Cod Curling Club won, with Utica Curling Club being the runner up.
The finalists for the first three events and the winners and finalists from the fourth event were piped on to the ice and shared the traditional toast to before the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd event finals.
Although The Country Club team gave them a good run, the Clamdiggers won the 1st event. The 2nd event was won by Sheet Cred from Great Smoky Mountains Curling and the 3rd event was won by the Potomac Stoners from Potomac Curling Club.
