College Bonspiel Brings Excitement and Camaraderie to Our Club!

The second weekend of October (11-13) saw our club host a thrilling college bonspiel once again, featuring 12 teams from schools including Bowdoin, Penn State, Navy, MIT, Harvard, Hamilton College, Castleton, RIT, RPI, and Babson. The event was filled with camaraderie and excitement, thanks to the hard work of our club volunteers and the generous support of parents of the host college team (Bowdoin) who provided food and hospitality. Special thanks go to Jamie Hutchinson, Steve O’Neil, Cathy Offinger, Nancy Pacheco, Barbara Enos, Linda McCarthy, Kirstin Karplus, Chris Hawsworth, Maura McCarthy, and Gabriele Bruce for volunteering , and to Peter Milli and Larry Budnick for video streaming. The ice crew, led by Phil Bruce, Scott Fernandez, Kirstin Karplus, Marinna Martini, Peter Mili,  Chris Hawksworth, Joanna Schafer (and other morning ice crew I didn’t get to see) ensured top-notch playing conditions. Huge thanks from the players for providing wonderful ice!

In the final matches on Sunday, Navy defeated Bowdoin I for the top spot, with Harvard claiming third after a win over Penn State, while Hamilton/Penn State secured fourth by overcoming MIT. It was an unforgettable weekend that highlighted the spirit of curling and showcased our club’s welcoming atmosphere. The young players and their families expressed their sincere appreciation for the warm hospitality and excellent facilities.

My sincere apologies if I inadvertently forgot to mention anyone who helped with the spiel. Your help is highly appreciated.
