2025 Scrod Spiel

The club’s annual Five and Under Scrod Spiel was held this past weekend. A record
eighteen teams competed to get their names added to the championship plaque. The
theme for this year’s event was Jaws as the iconic movie celebrates its fiftieth
anniversary.

Paula Howe and team had the club decked out in Jaws nostalgia and
Sandy Mealey donated a giant shark backdrop for unique team photos. The event
kicked off Friday afternoon with the initial 1:45pm draw providing a harbinger of what
was to come over the ensuing weekend – three tight games that came down to the last
end or last shot of the game.
The highly anticipated Scrod Dinner, with Sam Fischer masterfully cooking the fish, was
a big hit on Saturday evening. As Sunday morning dawned, the final two draws were
set to be played. Two dramatic third event semi-finals had the standing room only
crowd anticipating three more close battles in the final draw – they were not
disappointed. When the dust (not on the ice – which played magnificently all weekend –
kudos to the ice crew!) finally settled, here’s how the teams in the 2025 Scrod Spiel
finished:

1st Event Winners – Exploding Scuba Tanks (skip Steve Davis, vice Chris Morrissey,
second Louie Falcone, lead Audrey Venooker)
