2026 DEWEES MIXED SUMMERSPIEL
RULES OF PLAY
- All games will be a minimum of six ends and a maximum of eight ends. Teams will play in a mixed format where the stones are delivered by players of alternating gender, including any substitute players if required.
- The first three games will be points play. Teams accumulating the highest three-game point totals will
play in the Sunday finals. Ends won and rocks won will only be counted for the first six ends of each points game. The team that is trailing at the completion of the 6th end has the option to offer handshakes and finish the game early. Points will be scored as follows:
Game Win
Game Loss
Tied Game
5 Points
0 Points
2½ Points Each
Ends Won
Blank Ends
Rocks Won
1 Point Each
½ Point Per Team
¼ Point Per Rock
- In the event of a tie in total points in the first 3 games, the tie will be resolved in favor of the team with the most wins. If still not resolved, then in favor of the team with the most ends, then total rocks. If still not resolved, the skips will be notified to present themselves and their team to the Club to perform a draw to the button.
- All Event Finals will be eight ends regulation play (win/loss). Ties in Final Events will be broken by playing an extra end.
- The five-stone Free Guard Zone Rule will be observed.
- The no tick rule will be observed.
- Once the spiel has begun, all substitutes shall be supplied by the Cape Cod Curling Club. Substitutes can play any position with the approval of the event chair.
- Any team not ready to play at the scheduled time shall forfeit to their opponent one end and one stone (1.25 points) for each 10 minutes the game is delayed. At the end of forty minutes, the game will be forfeited. The winning team in points play will receive 12.5 points (equivalent to the win, six ends, and six rocks).
- Except for event finals, all games will be timed. A timer will be set to 1 hr 50 min and will start when the first rock is delivered. A warning buzzer will sound at 1 hr 35 min indicating there are 15 minutes remaining. A final buzzer will sound when the timer reaches zero. If the final stone of that end has come to rest prior to the final buzzer, the next end may the played, otherwise the game will end at the completion of the current end.
- Measurements will be made by the Vice Skips. An event chairperson will be available to resolve conflicts concerning measurements, and for rule interpretations. Scorecards will be completed and signed by the Vice Skips, then presented to an event chairperson at the end of each game. The event chairs will post the points scored and cumulative scores in the warm room and on the club website.
